Troubleshooting
Most issues come from a missing step in the setup. Find your symptom below — the theme editor messages usually point you straight to the solution.
Messages in the theme editor
When a block can’t display anything, it shows a message only in the theme editor. Customers never see it.
| Message | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| No table is showing because no product has been selected in the app block’s “Product” setting. | The block is on a page without a product (home page, landing page…). | Select a product in the block’s Product setting. |
| No table is showing because [product] doesn’t have a table assigned yet. | No table is assigned to the product, manually or with conditions. | Assign a table to the product. |
| The table [name] isn’t showing because it does not have any attributes. | The table is empty. | Add attributes to the table. |
| The table won’t show because no products are set to compare with [product]. | A comparison table needs products to compare. | Choose products to compare, fill the block’s Compare with setting, or enable Fallback to related products. |
| The table won’t show because no variants are set to compare for the product [product]. | A variant comparison table needs selected variants. | Select variants in the app. |
| This table is in preview and only appears in the theme editor. | The table’s status is Preview. | Change its status to Active. |
| Add to compare button won’t show because [product] doesn’t have a table assigned yet. | Only products with a table can be compared. | Assign a table to the product. |
The table doesn’t appear on my store
Check these points in order:
- The block is added and saved in the theme you’re looking at. The App extensions card of the app home page tells you whether blocks are enabled on your published theme.
- The product has a table (the Products page of the app shows a No table badge otherwise).
- The table is Active, not in Preview.
- The product has values. Empty rows are hidden by default, so a table with no values for this product displays nothing.
- For comparison tables: the attributes are marked Comparable, and there is at least one product to compare with.
- You aren’t using a page builder. App blocks only work in Shopify theme sections.
An attribute is missing from the table
- The product has no value for it and Hide empty rows is on (table editor).
- In comparison tables, the attribute isn’t Comparable.
- For metafield references, the value is set on the variant but the attribute is connected to the product metafield (or the opposite).
- For product options, the Option name doesn’t exactly match the option of the product (check spelling and translations).
- The row is beyond the Visible rows limit: customers need to click View more.
The wrong table is displayed
The product probably matches the conditions of several tables. The Products page of the app flags these conflicts. Fix them by adjusting conditions or assigning the table manually.
Values don’t update when I select a variant
- The attribute must be per-variant (or read variant information such as the SKU). Learn more.
- In comparison tables, enable Show variant selector.
- The app supports most themes, but some use unusual techniques to change variants. If it doesn’t work on your theme, contact support with a link to your store.
The “Add to compare” button doesn’t appear
- You are on the Pro plan.
- The Dynamic compare app embed is enabled and saved.
- Show add to compare is on, and if you selected collections in Show only on selected collections, the current collection is one of them.
- The products have a specification table.
- Your theme is supported. If not, add the Add to compare block to product cards (if your theme allows it), set a Custom target selector, or contact support.
The checkbox is disabled
Customers can compare up to 10 products at once. Once 10 products are in the list, other checkboxes are disabled until a product is removed.
Texts are blank in another language
The table isn’t translated in that language. Open the table, click Localize, and fill in every field. Learn more.
The table looks different in the editor preview
The preview of the table editor uses sample data and a system font. On your store, tables use your theme’s fonts and adapt to the width of the section. Adjust spacing and font sizes after checking the result on your store.
