Advanced customization
The table editor covers most needs. For a truly unique design, here are your options — with or without a developer.
Why custom CSS doesn’t apply directly
To look good on every theme, tables are isolated from your theme’s styles with a standard web technology called Shadow DOM. It prevents your theme’s CSS from breaking the tables — but it also means regular CSS you add to your theme can’t reach inside them.
That’s why appearance is managed in the table editor. When you need more, choose one of the options below.
Option 1: hire a Shopify Partner
If you don’t code, a Shopify Partner can build advanced customizations for you. Send them the developer documentation.
Our support team is happy to answer questions, but doesn’t provide custom development services.
Option 2: style tables with CSS parts
Some elements of the tables are exposed as CSS parts, which can be styled from your theme’s custom CSS — for example to highlight the column of the current product in comparison tables. Learn more.
Option 3: build custom tables in Liquid
All tables and values are stored in Shopify metaobjects and metafields, which are fully accessible in Liquid. Developers can build completely custom layouts while you keep managing data in the app. Learn more.
